Social Skills Programs

Hakshiva believes

all children can
be successful

We understand that developing healthy social relationships enable productivity and satisfaction in life and paves the way for a child to ultimately reach their full potential. With this in mind we offer a Social Skills Coaching service that helps children learn the tools they need to thrive socially. This program is designed to improve a child’s social intelligence so that they can develop healthy friendships, feel comfortable in a group setting, manage manipulative peers, feel motivated to excel, and more.

Hakshiva’s Social Skills Coaching program is a treatment framework that teaches the “why” behind social behavior.  Social skills are the behavioural output of our more fine-tuned social thoughts. The program is designed to develop a child’s social thinking process and improve his/her communication and social relationship skills. Social thinking focuses on helping kids figure out how to think in social situations. Kids are taught to observe and think about their own and others’ thoughts and feelings. They also learn the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. These abstract concepts are broken down by the coach and explained in very concrete terms.

One-on-one coaching
at the Hakshiva Center

Boys and girls, beginning at ages 5 yrs and older are serviced by coaches in one-on-one sessions. These sessions begin after the coach has completed the initial assessment process which consists of communication with parents and teachers and an observation of the child in a social setting. A treatment plan is then tailor made to the needs of the child, carried out by the coach and followed by the program supervisor. The feedback from students, parents and teachers has been overwhelmingly positive. Our goal is to facilitate success.

In-school
social skills workshops

Hakshiva also provides in-school social skills workshops. These workshops take place in a class setting and are intended to develop social skills leading to a more productive and fulfilling life for the students, placing an emphasis on learning how to think and act in different social settings.

We teach students to think about their and other’s thoughts and emotions, and they learn the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behavior.

Why is this so important?

  1. Use of good social skills allows others to feel comfortable around us
  2. We all want to have good connections and relationships with our peers, teachers, and family
  3. Using proper social skills principles helps us to develop critical thinking in understanding our environment. For example, group tasks, problem-solving, explaining stories, mail writing, presenting ideas, etc. would all be greatly enhanced by using the skills learned in the workshops.

Considering all these benefits, we offer these workshops to develop your childs’ social thought processes and to raise his/her social and communication skills to a much higher level.

Sessions are run by our professional social skills coaches. In addition, the coaches also guide teachers how to use these tools in the classroom, which helps deepen the learning and create a shared language in the classroom and among peers in general.
